G.S. § 58-3-180
Insurers not to require use of particular motor vehicle repair service
(a) No insurer or other person shall require, as a condition of payment of a claim, that a claimant use a particular motor vehicle repair service or motor vehicle repair business.
(b) No insurer shall suggest, recommend, or require the use of a particular motor vehicle repair service or motor vehicle repair business unless the insurer discloses in writing to the claimant that the claimant is not required to use the suggested or recommended motor vehicle repair service or motor vehicle repair business.
(c) No insurer shall suggest, recommend, or require the use of a particular motor vehicle repair service or motor vehicle repair business in a manner that is coercive or that interferes with the claimant's right to choose a repair service or repair business.
Violation of this section constitutes an unfair trade practice under G.S. 58-63-15 and is subject to the penalties provided in G.S. 58-63-25.
